A CERB Extension? Are the Libs trying to save their term?

By the first week of July and through the summer, millions of Canadians will come to the end of their 16 week eligibility for the CERB Emergency program. This program was quickly designed by the government to issue support from the Covid-19 shutdown.
4 months later, most have extinguished their 16 weeks, claiming $8000 in non-deducted support. This will place most Canadians in debt…
15% on the first $48,535 of taxable income, plus.
20.5% on the next $48,534 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over 48,535 up to $97,069), plus.
26% on the next $53,404 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $97,069 up to $150,473), plus.
… by at least $1200 in April. By forgoing a tax-free benefit the government has set itself up to claw back at least $2.5 Billion in taxes on the benefit while continuing to segregate the lower income classes. By giving $2000 to the working poor, $300 to children, $300-500 to seniors (still waiting on parliament to resume for this one), we are continuing to suppress those that need help too.
There has been “Vote of Confidences” in the government before, for far less drastic things than spending hundreds of Billions without a future plan. Are we destined for a forced election coming? How will the opposition parties stand when it comes to Basic Income, the NDP have been supportive, but more data is needed.
Covid-19 was the chance that Canada had to have a true National pilot of the program. It could have been designed in a way that had no disincentives towards working, thus stimulating the economy for the dollars spent while encouraging work. Instead, we took a fast targeted approach to one class of citizen, the working class, leaving most behind for months and some not even getting help at all.`
Will our government be voted out, a new election called, and will 2020 carry the national conversation about how we issue these Emergency Supports and if a UBI can help dispense to the lower income groups in solidarity and efficiency.
